Lenexa 's first fire station

The Fire Department received its official status as a city department on action of the City Council on Mar. 9, 1923. Louis O. Krumm, proprietor of Krumm's General Mdse. Store on Santa Fe Trail Drive ( Elm Street at the time) was appointed fire chief with two assistants – Clark Switzer and Frank Newcomer.

The site of the building originally was at 93 and Elm Street near JB's One Stop Station. It later was moved to the southeast corner of the city's park, located at Walnut and Haskins. This station was razed in 1952 and a new one was constructed by volunteer firemen and other volunteers.

Lenexa 's first fire station was built in 1923. The city council unanimously voted to construct the station of brick and tile, with a concrete floor, not to exceed a cost of $600.
