Early residents enjoyed local gathering spots

Many summer gatherings, including religious camp meetings, family picnics, and reunions were held in Henry Baltimore Lisk's Woods at 9801 Pflumm Rd. (formerly First Street ).

Another popular spot for Lenexa community gatherings was on the northwest corner of 87th Street Parkway (formerly H.C. Jackson Road in 1874, and later Burk Road) and Pflumm Road on the John and Magdalena Zimmerman Schweiger farm.

Pictured is a Tally-Ho wagon, at Lisk's Woods. The wagon was used to urge on the hounds in the sport of fox hunting. Included in the picture are Frank Linn, Jeanette Bradshaw Rice, David Legler, and Henry Gillett. Photo courtesy of the Lenexa Historical Society.
