Holy Trinity Elementary School of 1917
This building was erected at 13517 W. 92nd Street in Old Town Lenexa in 1917 following the first school, which was held in the renovated and converted first frame church building on the current site of the parish's rectory in 1911-12. It had two classrooms and living quarters for Benedictine Sisters of Atchison, Kan. who staffed the school. Sister Lucina and Sister Simplica were the first to teach children of the Holy Trinity Parish in 1912. For a few years, a four-year high school operated in the stone building, but when enrollment declined, the high school was reduced to a two-year school, and finally a two-year business course. It too was discontinued because most students after eighth grade stayed home to help with farm work.
Elementary school enrollment continued to grow. In 1960, a new two-story brick building at 13600 W. 92nd St. was constructed under Father Paul Miller's direction. For more information visit the Legler Barn Museum . Photo courtesy of the Lenexa Historical Society. |
