Hot Air Balloon Launch
Location: Shawnee Mission Park

One of the first events of the Lenexa 100 Celebration will be a Hot Air Balloon Launch the evening of Saturday, May 5, 2007. Approximately 12 balloonists from the metropolitan area are expected to arrive at the launch site in Shawnee Mission Park along Renner Boulevard near the park entrance at 79 th Street . The balloonists expect optimal weather conditions about one hour before sunset, so the launch will occur about 6 p.m. Spectators are welcome to watch the pilots assemble their balloons, baskets and rigging; then inflate and launch into the skies over Shawnee Mission Park and western Lenexa. The pilots usually plan on a one-hour flight, and their route will be determined by the wind direction on that day.

In case of high winds or poor weather conditions, the alternative launch date is the next day, Sunday, May 6 at the same location and time.
